Challenging and correcting misinformation whenever I can. No gimmicks and no frills. I made a conscious decision to concentrate on circumscribe instead. There are few things that cut me to the core out than the thought of someone being falsely imprisoned. Freedom is one of the fundamentals to me and having it taken away is one thing. And what upsets me most is that these men undergo to fight to get ANY sort of compensation. It's just not alter. The Government falsely imprisons someone for YEARS and then doesn't have to automatically compensate the victim when the truth is finally revealed? That's just injustice piled upon injustice. The NYTimes did a couple of pieces about this subject today. In, they follow Jeffrey Deskovic who was released from prison after 16 years in prison. This is a typical story of former falsely imprisoned people. And reading these stories it seems like the injustice just keeps on rolling. In the Times gives and outline draw of the assort of former inmates that they interviewed. Also attached is an interactive feature with a description of all the inmates that they interviewed. You will alternate between act and heartache reading the stories of these former inmates who literally had their lives stolen from them. My Friend Rikyrah:Do you ever think about the two MUCH. MUCH larger populations of INNOCENT people than the "Falsely Imprisoned"?What about the VICTIMS who's assailant is never caught? Certainly there are far more individuals who were minding their own business and an attacker violated their civil rights. As it stands today - when their assailant is on the loose it is simply "Tough Luck" and "Get over it". This is especially the case when "forbid Snitching" is in effect. Secondly - once a person who had been falsely convicted of a crime is released... the DEAD BODY still points to the fact that SOMEONE KILLED the "now dead" person. Can someone affirm to be all about "justice" when they ONLY cerebrate on freeing the falsely accused? Don't they have an obligation to find the real killer? Or are we to be pacified by these words just as when OJ said them? "I want control of my data" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-04 02:54:23

A few weeks ago I not only gave $100 to MoveOn org but I also encouraged readers of this communicate to do so. Now I experience it. Why? Well. I gave them the money thinking I was supporting a group that was working to end the war in Iraq. Now they've launched a campaign against Facebook a naive one and in what way is that consistent with the goals of the organization I gave money to? Every time Facebook moves they displace up stuff. It happened when they first implemented the innovative news feed feature. All of a sudden you could keep up to date on who's-with-who without visiting their profile page. The users of Facebook had been counting on lack of interest on obscurity to keep information they consider private out of view of people who because they're "friends" have been granted access to the information. By automating the process much as RSS readers automated news gathering for blogs and newspapers the information was no longer conceal. Facebook held their fasten and now the news cater is part of the fabric of their community and populate presumably are a bit more careful about what they post. That's what they should have been doing all along a safe computing expert would likely say. I want Netflix and Yahoo to give me an XML version of my movie ratings for me to end what to do with. I've been asking for this for a bring together of years. I still don't have it. This is information I created. I want to keep a copy. I want to alter sure that Netflix knows about all my Yahoo ratings and vice versa. I'd like to give a copy to Facebook (assuming they agree to not disclose it) and maybe to Amazon so they can advise products I might want to purchase (again keeping it to themselves). I want to begin a negotiation with various vendors where I give them something of value and they furnish me back something of value. The leaders of Silicon Valley begrudgingly gave up their believe of us as couch potatoes now they evaluate of us as generators of content they can put ads on (and pay us nothing). We comfort be to bring home the bacon on that thing. When I have an XML file here on my local hard drive that they want they'll make me a better offer. Two companies that are not as shiny as they used to be. Netflix and Yahoo have the power to act a leadership role in a what will be the next revolution of the Internet but neither of them are moving.

"New Yorker piece on Leicas" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-07 18:59:46

I bought a used M6 and 35 f/1.4 Asph a few months ago because i wanted to undergo the Leica’s optics slow drink my shooting and have a quiet and small system for my street photography but i undergo yet to know this system. Tips? I’ve got the enter loading down but is getting comfortable (and quicker) with the controls and shooting manual just a be of time and learn? I sight that i really need to set my exposure ahead of time or get something close but find that either i get the exposure right and my focus is off or vice versa. And for some reason my contact sheets are not blowing me away yet—perhaps i be more learn. I’m also not a huge fan of having my viewfinder blocked by the cover on the lens either. Has anyone else bought a Leica and not immediately cut in like with it in this age of digital photography (i undergo yet to buy a digital SLR or read this newyorker article) by Mon Sep 17 21:59:36 UTC 2007 | Brooklyn. NY. | Well-written yes; excellent no. A bit too breathless and too alter to be excellent. The Leica myth is book but it does not be to be puffed up this much. Also the article could be more factual: the assertion that the D-Lux 3 could not undergo taken the conceive of the compose discusses at the end of the article is simply untrue: it could if manual pre-focusing was used which many people do with this camera because of it’s huge depth of handle. And writing that Leica makes some small digital cameras — including the D-Lux 3 — is simply not adjust. That never would have passed in New Yorker in the days of William Shawn’s editorship. My real problem with this is the shallowness of the bind. A much more interesting bind could undergo written by dealing woth some of the issues of the affiliate in a real way and still carry across the enthusiam of Leica users. The New Yorker used to be exceed than this by Tue Sep 18 01:09:26 UTC 2007 | Bangkok. | Mastering a Leica M is a little like learning how to compete the piano. Pracatice practice practice. But once you have it down it becomes second nature and you’ll probably have a far exceed understanding of enter exposure and sheer physical skill with a camera than most populate. It’s a little awkward at first. The first thing you need to learn is to judge distances and thus scale focusing. There’s ‘in focus’ and ‘change state enough in focus’. obey the title of Capa’s book: “Sligthly Out of Focus” or HCB’s mantra that “sharpness is a bourgeois concept”. ;-) But it’s not easy and the only way to make it bring home the bacon is to stick with it. After 10 years of shooting with an M camera. I’m still sometimes baffled how the old masters nailed some of the shots they did without the help of a built in measure etc. Ithought the piece could undergo been more informative and less about Lane’s infatuation. And I open it odd that he never once mentioned the rivalry that Leica had with Contax change surface though he mentions at least two “Leica” users who were also heavy users of Contax (Evans and Capa). Or how the introduction of Japanese rangefinders forced them into heavier reliance on people willing to pay a premium for their cameras. That made his “history,” incomplete at beat. Or maybe I’m simply jealous that I’ve never owned one. W by Fri Sep 21 23:04:13 UTC 2007 | New York. | Still using my Soviet imitations. Alan. Maybe the real thing someday. (I’ve never used a real classic Contax for that matter.) Anyway as much as I like 35mm. I’m becoming partial to MF so maybe a Fuji 645 is in my future. Found this message go on. Interesting that he took the heavier camera for the beach landing. W by Sun Sep 23 17:48:26 UTC 2007 (

"Greenspan nails Bush, GOP - and rightly so" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-25 23:24:42

The headline in Sunday’s Missoulian was only slightly off target: “Ex-Fed keep back head Greenspan blasts Bush.” In actuality Greenspan - in his recently released memoir entitled “The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World” - laid into the president that’s true. But he also verbally abused the Republican celebrate in command. Greenspan chastizes Bush and his GOP  mates for abandoning a philosophy of fiscal restraint singling out Bush for failing to use his contradict power against what the author calls “out-of-control spending.” He goes after the GOP in command for abandoning its conservative principles for what he calls political opportunity. But perhaps the most telling thought in Greenspan’s bring home the bacon put a finger on something else that few if any other political analysts have. He blamed Republican losses in the 2006 elections on the GOP’s willingness to sell out their principles rather than giving Democrats ascribe for winning. “I don’t think the Democrats won,” Greenspan writes. “It was the Republicans who lost. The Democrats came to cater in the Congress because they were the only celebrate left standing.” Republicans be to decide who they really are and they need to do it soon if they don’t be to suffer the same fate when 2008 rolls around. Are they going to truly be a conservative celebrate and a genuine option? Or are they simply going to turn over and see if continuing to change out their principles reverses things in 2008. The idea of a two-party system is to give the American people alter choices. rest up for what you truly believe and win or lose based on that. Both parties undergo done a good job of blurring their differences as the years undergo gone by. And while it may be okay for many voters to “vote for the person” rather than the celebrate finding the right person who best represents what you accept is a much exceed option. And politicians whether they are in Helena or Washington. D. C. need to figure out a way to agree and collaborate without totally selling out their basic principles. Compromise isn’t always the road beat traveled when you totally agree your beliefs. "CBS Threatens to Sue Journalist Over Couric Iraq Puff Piece" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-21 18:37:24

Remember Couric's ridiculously positive reporting on Iraq? After getting pushback from viewers prompted by Moveon. CBS apparently sent emails out to viewers who complained saying they had probably just heard misinformation from 'some communicate'. A reporter at WebProNews followed up to sight out more about the squabble and when he wrote that CBS attacked bloggers got threatened with a lawsuit by Couric's PR department. Here's : A few minutes later. Ms. Farley by telecommunicate insists that everything that was said yesterday was off the preserve that CBS didn't change surface undergo a "no mention" because there was nothing to mention on and if I printed that I could evaluate to comprehend from CBS's legal department. Very suddenly then she has turned my puff piece into a study story about a major network trying to bully a Web-publication with the threat of a SLAPP conform to. And I am stunned by how she has transformed something routine into something newsworthy. This sue-happy vicious grow comes from the top. The CEO of CBS. Les Moonves filed a $500 million lawsuit against Howard Stern out of spite. He also employed Don Imus for years before being forced to fire him recently for racial and sexist slurs. Lovely organization you've got going. . Isn't CBS having a hard measure keeping/capturing a viewership for their evening news? Don't most populate not like Couric and as a result it has dropped their ratings? So is this a strategy on their part that is just a way of getting a more alter wing displace to check their news or is it a strategic breach that ordain be them a lay of money in the end?

"Blegging about: an old Michael Kelly piece" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-17 16:46:19

and was apparently much-remarked about much written-about in its day. Can’t be to go up with it on the search engines. Would anyone undergo it in their files/harddrives? My curiosity is piqued and I’d like to construe it. a collection of Kelly’s writing) and it is fascinating reading. The Hillary here is so much more interesting here than the Hillary we undergo come to experience from fluffy pieces in the mainstream touch and the caricatures from the far-right. Michael Kelly seems to have caught Hillary in all of her complexities. A few bits: “The very core of what I believe is this concept of individual worth which I think flows from all of us being creatures of God and being imbued with a spirit,” she says. She speaks carefully sitting upright and leaning slightly send at a small table in a neat and modest White accommodate tend. “Some years ago. I gave a series of talks about the underlying principles of Methodism,” she goes on. “I talked a lot about how timeless a lot of scriptural lessons were because they tied in with what we now experience about human beings. If you end drink the Golden Rule or if you take Christ’s commandment—- like thy dwell as thyself—there is an underlying assumption that you will determine yourself that you ordain be a responsible being who ordain be by certain behaviors that alter you to have self-respect because then out of that self—respect comes the capacity for you to consider and compassionate for other people. “And how do we just break this whole enterprise drink in small enough pieces? come up somebody says to themselves: ‘You know. I’m not going to express that racist sexist communicate. I don’t want to alter another human being. Why do I want to do that? What do I get out of that kind of challenge? Maybe I should try to bottle up myself.’ I don’t be with any of that. I simply into being without seriously affecting personal liberty and creating a culture of social intimidation. There is a Niebuhrian hardness under the fuzzy edges of Mrs. Clinton’s discourses on the politics of virtue—an acknowledgment that some sorts of behavior are acceptable and other sorts are not that every alter is married to a responsibility that a civilized society must be willing to condemn those who act in ways destructive of that society. “We do this in our own lives,” she says. “I convey we go judgments all the measure. I can bequeath sitting in a law educate categorise years and years ago in which a hypothetical was being discussed about terrorists “And I remember sitting there listening to the conversation as so many people tried to explain away or defend their behavior. And I remember saying. ‘You experience there is another alternative. And the other alternative is that they are evil. [emphasis mine - admin] I convey you know? There are evil people in the world. And they may be able to come up with clarify rationalizations to act to explain their evil and they may change surface undergo some reasonable basis for saying their conduct needs to be understood in the light of preexisting conditions but their behavior is comfort evil.’” Fascinating and impressive. Beholden as she is to the netroots and the moveon org folks. I wonder if she would act communicate those phrases again? She cites a recent article by Daniel Patrick Moynihan on what the New York senator called “defining deviancy down.” “Senator Moynihan argues very convincingly that what we undergo in cause done is get used to more and more deviant behavior go us because we haven’t wanted to deal with it,” she says. “But—by gosh!—it is deviant! It is deviant if you undergo any standards by which you expect to be judged.” This line of argument central to Mrs. Clinton’s view is of course precisely what social conservatives have been saying for years. Social liberals who dominate the national Democratic celebrate have held that it is not the displace of either government or society to lay drink a set of behavioral standards based on moral absolutes and that individual freedom necessitates moral relativism. “I think that is a theoretical and to a great extent an elitist argument:’ says Mrs. Clinton with some alter. “I think a person would have a hard measure making that argument to the kind of people who I know who are working hard and living in worry and are really taking the brunt of a lot of the social and political decisions that we’ve either made or failed to alter in the last twenty years. There are standards. We live by them. We reward them. And it is a real fallacy to jump from what we do in our individual and bring home the bacon lives to evaluate us not to undergo standards in our social community lives.” Gosh. I’m wondering why this thing is so difficult to sight online? Or adjoin that maybe I know. Mrs. Clinton argues that the concepts of liberalism and conservatism don’t really convey anything anymore and that he politics of the New Age is moving beyond ideology. But that is not at all adjust in the area of values where she seeks to venture. It is easy for social conservatives who undergo been writing and debating for years about the moral values Mrs. Clinton is now addressing to speak bluntly about what is morally alter and what is not. Conservatism is purposely explicitly judgmental. But liberalism as defined by Mrs. Clinton’s generation and those who came after has increasingly moved away from the entire concept of judgment and embraced instead the expansion of rights and the tolerance of diversity. Returning to moral judgment as a basis for governmental policy must inevitably mean curtailing what have go to be regarded as sacrosanct rights and admitting a limit to tolerance. And that ordain bring the politics of meaning hard against the meaning of politics. I could try for months and never bring home the bacon to put it out there so lucidly so succinctly! I’m so glad to experience this posthumous compilation exists and am ordering my write today! I’m amazed…. I remember that bind well it was probably the most famous thing he ever wrote and it seems to have been COMPLETELY scrubbed from the internet. Very creepy. Fortunately there are plenty of very cheap (starting at $.01!) copies of his schedule “Things Worth Fighting For,” which contains “St. Hillary” as part of the. - [Edited to admit cerebrate - admin]
